What Else Is Happening in the Running Industry?

We Run Long is making trail running inclusive. "Kelsey Long and Rebecca Bowman, of the nonprofit organization, We Run Long, along with Becky Croft, are paving the path and showing us how we can transform trail running into a more inclusive space. Through their efforts they are taking on the challenges faced by Black, Indigenous and People of Color athletes and the initiatives aimed at overcoming these barriers."

Philadelphia Marathon announces equal prize money for non-elite female, male and nonbinary athletes. "The change applies to all three races that are part of the marathon weekend on Nov. 23 and 24 — a half-marathon and 8K on Saturday and a marathon on Sunday."

AJW writes about the value of setting a big, potentially hard-to-reach goal regardless of age. "I tell this story not to congratulate myself or to share the boring details of long, lonely miles plodding through the desert — but rather to share something that I have come to realize as I’ve gotten older, which is the intrinsic value of setting a big, potentially hard-to-reach goal. Striving day after day to achieve such a goal can be one of the true gifts of growing older."

Run It Up Dallas run club remembers fallen Officer Darron Burks for his 'good spirit' and love for fitness. “We're having a run on Sept. 14 at Fair Oaks Park,” Murdaugh said. "It’s a chance for those who loved Burks and are hurting to run through their emotions."

Mad Miles Run Club founder aims for diversity at Around the Crown 10K. "The Mad Miles Run Club brought 140 people to run Around the Crown on Sunday, but it started with a passionate goal from Cornell Jones. Jones ran track and cross country at Winston-Salem State. He says he launched Mad Miles Run Club to make sure more people like him were seen at the finish line."

Kansas City’s first Black run club is reshaping the community narrative: ‘It’s a movement.’ It’s a lifestyle shift for a whole community of people that get an opportunity to believe in themselves again because someone believed in them when no one gave them an opportunity. In their minds and their hearts, they have an opportunity to take their health and their wellness seriously.”

Are Run Clubs the New Nightclubs? "With groups popping up across the country, run clubs, of course, offer an affordable means for working out, but they also foster relationships - both platonic and romantic. New runners and marathoners alike are taking advantage of the opportunity, kicking dating apps, nightclubs and heavy drinking to the curb."
