Discover the Trails with the RIDC: A Free Intro to Trail Running Program!

Freedom to Run: Back Outside

In 2025, the Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC) is focused on increasing access to and participation in trail running. Building on insights from previous RIDC studies, we aim to help the running industry better understand the challenges BIPOC runners face when getting into trail running. This initiative will explore key themes such as gear, accessibility, technology, safety, and more, examining how these barriers differ across gender, age, and running experience levels.

To bring this additional research to life, we’re launching a FREE 6-month trail running program and we’re looking for 10-12 Black, Indigenous, or Runners of Color who are completely new to trail running to participate.

Who Should Apply?

We’re seeking runners of all experience levels who are eager to explore trail running:

  • Beginner runners looking for guidance and support to build consistency

  • Experienced road runners who have yet to venture onto the trails

  • Individuals in the US who are 18 years or older who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color

  • Residents of metropolitan areas with access to nearby trails

Our goal is to help lower, or remove, key barriers to entry, making trail running more accessible and welcoming for BIPOC runners long-term.

What You’ll Receive – At No Cost to You!

Participants in our program will receive:

  • Six months of personalized coaching with a running coach

  • Trail running shoes and apparel

  • Race entry to an introductory-distance trail race or greater

  • Running nutrition support

  • Connection to an inclusive running community

Ready to Hit the Trails?

If you’re interested in participating, fill out this survey. Selected runners will receive a follow-up email by the end of March. Training kicks off in early April, with a goal for runners to complete a trail event by the end of September.

Don’t miss this opportunity to challenge yourself, connect with a supportive community, and help shape the future of trail running!
