RIDC Summer Edition: Expand and Deepen Our Impact

Originally shared in the RIDC Impact Report:

What does it mean to have an impact? To have a strong effect or influence on a situation or person. Creating impact is the actual doing. Impact is not imagined; it is getting things done!

What does it mean to be a racial justice-focused organization? An organization that works for racial justice implementing the systematic fair treatment of people of all races that results in equitable opportunities and outcomes for everyone.

What do equitable opportunities and outcomes look like? Working intentionally to create intentional opportunities for all people to reach their full potential by advancing proactive and preventative measures to achieve and sustain racial equity.

As co-chairs of the Running Industry Diversity Coalition, we hold firm that our vision, mission, and values direct us toward vital transformation in ourselves, our industry, and our communities. Our board's combined years of experience in the running industry have given us the privilege to experience the power that running can have on people’s lives by promoting health and well-being, creating community, and fostering economic opportunity. We have also witnessed how those benefits have not been available for all groups within the industry that we love. Although we understand that systemic change takes time, we are proud to present the 2023 Impact Report, our first ever, showcasing the RIDC’s pivotal action and results in its brief history that are creating a foundation for real transformation in the running industry.

We feel especially grateful for the RIDC staff who embrace and champion our vision, mission, and core values. The small team has delivered on our strategic priorities in moving our industry toward our long-term goals. They have given incredible energy and care while bearing the tension it takes to do this work. They have innovatively made visible our values. The contents of our impact report will shine a light on the results they have produced.

We hope you are inspired to join us (or bring others with you) as we continue to unite the running industry to improve the inclusion, visibility, and access for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Together with you, we will expand and deepen our impact in the next 10 years and beyond.

In gratitude,

RIDC Board Co-chairs,
Chris Lampen-Crowell and Shannon Woods
