RIDC WORKSHOPS
Creating An Inclusive Event Part 2:
THE COOKOUT Edition
Last year, we took lessons from our first workshop about "Creating an Inclusive Event" (also on our Youtube channel) and used them to curate a large-scale community gathering and fundraiser we titled "THE COOKOUT, hosted by the RIDC."
In this workshop, we revisit those lessons and discuss the successes and challenges we experienced while implementing them. Additionally, we assembled a panel of seasoned event organizers who’ve hosted inclusive events for a discussion followed by a Q&A. This content is helpful to employees of brands, retailers, race events, and run clubs hosting community events to reach and engage People of Color.
Hard Conversations During The Holidays: Part 1
Ever find yourself in a tense moment discussing racial justice with family and friends? We get it. Those conversations can be challenging, with high costs to your relationships. This candid and vulnerable conversation provides an invaluable resource for anyone seeking guidance on navigating difficult discussions while preserving peace. Check out our Youtube channel for practical insights that will make your holiday, and daily discussions more meaningful.
Know to Run: Yatika Hosted by Jordan Marie Whetstone of Rising Hearts
This virtual workshop dives into how the running community can uplift native runners, go beyond land acknowledgments, and foster a kinship with Indigenous communities through collaborative, long-term work. This event encourages us to ask: “If we don’t have a space supportive of Indigenous peoples, who else is missing from this community? What can we do to help make running and outdoor spaces safe, inclusive, diverse, accessible, affordable, and supportive?"
Our Mental Health Matters: It's More Than Just a Run
The Black and AAPI communities have a shared history of cultural stigma against seeking resources for mental health, in part due to lack of access. This workshop aims to raise awareness of this topic and highlight what the running community can do to become a more inclusive resource for mental health.
Welcome to the RIDC: A Recommitment and Reintroduction
This workshop is perfect for anyone new to the RIDC (both individuals and companies) or anyone who could benefit from a refresher about the organization's work in the running industry.
Running While Black: In Conversation With Alison Désir & Dr. Riddhi Sandil
The Future of Running (Racial Inclusion in the Running Industry)
This is a two-part research project in partnership with Bentley University. Part one, presented in this webinar, discussed the racial diversity that currently exists in running participation and explored an outlook for a future that will be driven by growth in underrepresented communities. This was an interactive discussion! The second phase, which will be presented in the future, will compare racial representation in running participation against racial representation in running industry employment, spotlighting the disparity that currently exists and discussing steps that companies can take to better reflect all the individuals who are out running.
Breaking Down Barriers To Trail Running
A panel and Q&A focused on better understanding the barriers that underrepresented runners face in the sport and ways we can work together to create safer, inclusive, and welcoming spaces.
Internal Look At External Presence
Your company’s messaging is the first step of the hiring process to attract a diverse group of candidates. From job descriptions to sources of bias in the screening process, you will learn strategies for building a diverse talent pipeline to help guide our members in completing this work within their own organization.
Creating An Inclusive Event
In 2021, the Philadelphia Distance Run (PDR) returned to the city of brotherly love after a 12-year hiatus. Acquired by a group of leaders in the Philly running community, PDR honors its competitive past while building a new future where running is more inclusive and accessible to everyone. Please join us for this educational workshop where PDR leaders Andy Kucer, executive director of Students Run Philly Style, and Ross Martinson, owner of Philadelphia Runner, will share their stories and strategies for creating an inclusive running event.
Reporting On Diversity Workshop
VF Corporation presents best practices in diversity reporting to help guide you in completing this task within your organization. This session explores the purpose of reporting, the common challenges involved, and how to communicate results.
3 Best Practices In Hiring For Diversity
Organizational readiness: Is your organization ready to hire and retain people of color? We will discuss and allow you to determine the answer by key indicators.
Grappling With Unconscious Bias
In "equity and inclusion" work how do we navigate with awareness and action? With what identity and intention do we move? What landmarks are helpful for orientation and what paths do we identify? We explore some frameworks of implicit cognitive bias and its implications for our orientation in engaging in "DEI" work.
Why DEI?
What do we mean when we're talking about DEI? How do we make sure that we are reflective and authentic when doing this work? Watch Teresa Baker and Martha Garcia lead a discussion on “Why DEI?”
A Talk About Talking About Race
Many feel that because they are not racist, nor do they feel the impact of racism personally, the issue of race is not relevant to them; however, while some progress has been made, systemic racism still exists.
