Champion Highlight: Saturday Long Run

An RIDC Champion is someone who is actively doing the work of the mission and vision of our organization and is a living example of the goals we have.

Our next champion is the Washington, DC–based group Saturday Long Run. In their own words, “Saturday Long Run is simply a recognition of the most important run in any runner’s training. The long run is a fundamental element in the construction of a runner’s foundation. We gather together each Saturday as both a commitment to our goals and a celebration and enjoyment of one another. From streets and roadways, to paved and trail pathways, we embrace the challenges each run brings and always invite others to join us.” They are a true all paces, all faces club that is making the space and time for runners to see themselves in a run group setting. We also love that they are not strictly a road or trail running group, but that they actively use their time together to grow as a community and explore routes and trails that members haven’t been to before.

When asked about any special rituals they do to warm up as a group, founder Joel Frye mentioned, “We have one warm-up ritual that we can count on like clockwork, and that’s waiting on Freddie (@runjuneteenth). It never fails.” So whether you are a member that is running a little late or are always 20 mins early, this is a great example of the community they have built and the space they hold for one another. If you are looking for a group to join when in the DC area, be sure to check them out on Instagram, @saturdaylongrun, to find out the details for each run.
